2021 was a Blast! What was your most memorable moment?

Join the #RecreationalCoaching channel on Instagram and/or Facebook!

This channel is for all the parents who volunteer and answer to the call of “Coach.”

I’m tackling 2022 head-on with a mission to get more parents on the field, court, and in the metaphorical “Arena,” coaching their children with sound positive mental skill strategies.

For those that continue to answer the call, stay tuned for lots of tips and strategies geared to strengthen our children’s minds through sport and performance.

My most memorable moment comes in two parts. The first, was watching my eight-year-old play after football practice with his buddies. In a post covid lockdown era, I surely do not take that scene for granted.

The second memorable moment came after a close game in the playoffs. I’ll set the scene:

We are down by five points; we have the ball on the 50-yard line with 10 seconds to go. We score, we win, everyone goes nuts!

I look back at my son and he is kneeling down in a prayer position with both knees on the ground, rocking back and forth. He looks up at me and I see nothing but pure joy beaming from his teary-eyed face. He says to me, “Now I know why people cry when they win the Super Bowl.”

I pray that I never forget the look on his face in that moment and his voice uttering those words of pure joy.

Moments like that do not come very often, but …

it is exactly why I love coaching youth sports.
